Overview
What does this procedure mean?
Angioplasty and stenting are catheter-based treatments used to improve blood flow through a narrowed or blocked artery or vein. A balloon may widen the narrowing and a stent may be placed when appropriate.
PTBD & Stenting for Obstructive Jaundice
Symptoms / reasons you may be evaluated
- Jaundice can cause yellowing of the eyes/skin, dark urine, pale stools, itching and sometimes abdominal pain or fever.
- Leg pain or cramping with walking in peripheral arterial disease
- Reduced exercise tolerance or limb fatigue
- Coldness, colour change or reduced pulses in an affected limb
- Symptoms related to reduced blood flow in the vascular territory being treated
When it is considered
When might it be considered?
Treatment may be considered when symptoms or vascular testing show a clinically significant narrowing or blockage that is suitable for endovascular treatment.
How do we check it?
Examination, pulse assessment and vascular imaging such as Doppler ultrasound, CT angiography or catheter angiography may be used to define the problem.
How it is usually done
Imaging guides a fine access needle/catheter into the biliary system; drainage and/or stenting is then performed.

- 2Image guidanceइमेज गाइडेंसIntroduce a catheter through a small vascular access siteसुरक्षित रास्ता और लक्ष्य इमेजिंग की मदद से तय किया जाता है।
Cross and treat the narrowing with a balloon and/or stent when indicatedचयनित तकनीक/उपकरण का उपयोग करके उपचार किया जाता है।
Check the final blood flow and monitor the access siteप्रक्रिया के बाद निगरानी और आगे की योजना बनाई जाती है।
Benefits and risks
Possible benefits / goals
- Can improve blood flow without open bypass surgery in selected cases
- Small access site and catheter-based approach
- May improve walking or organ/limb perfusion when the blockage is the cause of symptoms
- Treatment can be tailored to the anatomy
Risks & things to knowजोखिम और सीमाएँ
- Bruising or bleeding at the access site
- Re-narrowing or stent-related problems
- Clot formation or vessel injury
- Kidney or contrast-related issues may occur in susceptible patients
Before and after
Before the procedure
- Bring relevant reports, scans and medication details.
- Tell the specialist about allergies, blood thinners and important medical history.
- Follow any fasting, medication or preparation instructions given specifically to you.
- Arrange an accompanying person if the clinic advises this because of sedation or the expected recovery.
After the procedure
Follow medication, activity and wound-care instructions carefully. Vascular follow-up and risk-factor management remain important after treatment.
